Peter Michael La Carrière Chardonnay 2022 is a standout Sonoma-style Chardonnay from one of California’s most celebrated producers, grown in the estate’s own steep hillside vineyard high above the valley floor. With its pronounced mineral drive, concentration, and refined richness, it reflects both the intensity of the site and the precision of winemaker Nicolas Morlet.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, polished golden hue that hints at both depth and freshness. The aromatics are layered and expressive, opening with mandarin, dried apricot, and warm pineapple, then moving into brioche, acacia honey, hazelnut, and a lift of grapefruit. On the palate, it is concentrated yet elegantly composed, with Williams pear, citrus, white flowers, almonds, and vanilla wrapped around a clear stony minerality. The texture is full and silky, with excellent balance and a long, refined finish. Delicious now, it has the structure and energy to age gracefully for at least another decade.

Production
La Carrière comes from Peter Michael’s own estate vineyard, perched on an exceptionally steep slope at around 500 meters of elevation in California. The soils are notably rocky and well-draining, creating naturally low yields and adding a strong mineral signature to the wine, while the cool, elevated site helps preserve freshness and precision. The wine is aged for 12 months on the lees, which adds complexity, texture, and a subtle creamy depth to the final blend.

This Chardonnay is a natural match for rich seafood dishes such as lobster, scallops, or butter-poached cod, as well as roasted chicken, creamy risotto, and dishes with mushrooms or truffle. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C to allow the aromatics and texture to unfold, and consider brief decanting if you want to open up the more complex layers.
