Peter Michael La Carrière Chardonnay 2018 is a striking example of Sonoma-side Chardonnay at its most precise and expressive. Sourced from Peter Michael’s own La Carrière vineyard—a steep, high-altitude site with intensely rocky soils—this wine combines depth, mineral drive, and richness in a style that has become a hallmark of the estate.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, polished golden hue that hints at its concentration and texture. The nose is layered and immediately compelling, unfolding with mandarin, dried apricot, and warm pineapple, followed by brioche, acacia honey, hazelnut, and a lift of grapefruit. On the palate, it is both generous and finely etched, delivering Williams pear, citrus, white flowers, almonds, vanilla, and a clear mineral core. The balance of ripeness, freshness, and structure gives it excellent aging potential, and while it is already beautifully composed, it should continue to develop gracefully for at least another 10 years.

Production
La Carrière, meaning “the quarry,” sits on a steep slope at around 500 meters above sea level, where the rocky, well-drained soils naturally limit vigor and encourage concentration. The combination of elevation, exposure, and excellent drainage creates ideal conditions for Chardonnay, and winemaker Nicolas Morlet has crafted the wine with 12 months on lees to build texture, complexity, and depth.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay is a superb match for richer seafood dishes such as lobster, scallops, or butter-poached fish, as well as roast chicken, veal, creamy pasta, or dishes with truffle and mushroom. Serve it at 10–12°C for the best balance of aroma and freshness; decanting is not necessary, though a short period in the glass will help the wine open up beautifully.
