Description

Pertois-Moriset Les Quatre Terroirs Chardonnay Grand Cru Extra Brut is a precise, mineral-driven grower Champagne crafted entirely from Grand Cru Chardonnay in the Côte des Blancs. This non-vintage cuvée showcases four outstanding terroirs, woven together into a Champagne that is both refined and vibrantly expressive. It’s a superb choice for those who appreciate pure, terroir-focused Blanc de Blancs with tension, elegance, and a very dry, gastronomic style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Les Quatre Terroirs presents a pale, luminous straw-yellow color with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate mousse. The visual impression is one of finesse and purity, reflecting its Chardonnay pedigree and extended lees ageing. On the nose, expect a lifted bouquet of lemon zest, green apple, white flowers, and chalky minerality, layered with notes of brioche, almond, and a subtle salinity from the chalk soils. The palate is taut and linear at first, opening into a beautifully textured mid-palate with citrus fruit, crisp pear, and hints of hazelnut and pastry cream. The Extra Brut dosage keeps the style very dry, emphasizing precision, freshness, and a long, saline, mouthwatering finish. With its strong structure and high acidity, this Champagne has excellent aging potential over the next 5–8 years, during which it will gain further complexity, creaminess, and nuanced tertiary notes.

Production
Les Quatre Terroirs is crafted from Chardonnay grapes sourced from four prestigious Grand Cru villages in the Côte des Blancs—typically including sites such as Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant, and Chouilly—renowned for their pure chalk soils and cool, northerly climate. These conditions naturally favor slow ripening, high acidity, and an intense mineral expression in Chardonnay. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve delicacy and aromatic precision, then gently pressed in the traditional Champagne manner. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vessels, with a careful blending of reserve wines to maintain house style and depth. The wine is aged on its lees for an extended period before disgorgement, allowing it to develop fine bubbles, complexity, and creaminess, while the Extra Brut dosage (very low sugar) underscores the clarity of terroir and the wine’s chiselled, dry profile.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is a superb partner for refined, delicate dishes: think oysters, scallop carpaccio, sashimi, caviar, or simply prepared white fish with citrus and herbs. It also pairs beautifully with goat cheese, Comté, light poultry dishes, or elegant vegetable starters such as asparagus or fennel-based plates. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. A brief decant of 10–15 minutes in a wide-bowled white wine glass, or simply letting it open in the glass, can help the wine’s complexity and creamier notes unfold without sacrificing its tension.

Producer
Pertois-Moriset is a respected grower-producer based in the Côte des Blancs, the spiritual home of Chardonnay in Champagne. Working primarily with Grand Cru vineyards, the estate focuses on expressing the nuances of chalk-rich terroirs through precise, low-dosage Blanc de Blancs Champagnes. Over the years, Pertois-Moriset has gained recognition among Champagne enthusiasts for its handcrafted, terroir-driven style and its emphasis on sustainable viticulture, meticulous vineyard work, and long lees aging. Les Quatre Terroirs stands as one of the domaine’s signature expressions, encapsulating the depth and purity that have made the house a rising star in the region’s grower Champagne movement.
