Description
Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2008 is one of Champagne’s most celebrated prestige cuvées, instantly recognisable for its elegant floral style and the iconic anemone bottle designed by Émile Gallé in 1902. Crafted from a refined blend dominated by Chardonnay from the Grand Cru villages of Cramant and Avize, it combines rarity, finesse, and a long-standing reputation for artistry. A favourite of tastemakers past and present, it remains a true symbol of Maison Perrier-Jouët’s signature style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a luminous golden colour with exceptional clarity and delicate glints of apple-gold. The nose is graceful and expressive, unfolding with white flowers, peach, pear, and bright citrus notes. On the palate, it is remarkably fresh and precise, with a fine mousse, elegant structure, and a layered, finely textured finish.
This is a Champagne built for complexity as much as immediacy, with Chardonnay bringing tension and purity, Pinot Noir adding subtle depth, and a touch of Pinot Meunier rounding the blend. The 2008 vintage gives it excellent ageing potential, and it should continue to develop beautifully over time, gaining additional nuance and savoury complexity.
Production
Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2008 is sourced from some of the finest Chardonnay terroirs in Champagne, especially the Grand Cru villages of Cramant and Avize, where chalky soils help preserve freshness and aromatic precision. Pinot Noir from the Reims area adds structure and balance, while a small proportion of Pinot Meunier softens the blend. The wine is aged for a minimum of six years before release, allowing the cuvée to develop its characteristic depth and finesse.
Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, turbot, poultry with creamy sauces, or dishes featuring peach and white-fleshed fruit. It also works well with rich vegetable preparations, including turnips and other root vegetables. Serve chilled at around 12°C, and if possible, give it a short rest in the glass rather than heavy decanting, so its aromatic precision remains intact.
Producer
