Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 2016 is one of the Rhône Valley’s most celebrated Syrahs, sourced from some of Hermitage’s most prized old-vine parcels. A flagship wine for Paul Jaboulet Aîné, it combines power, precision, and finesse in a vintage that is both classic and beautifully balanced.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose is layered and expressive, with ripe dark cherries, blackcurrant, and blackberry lifted by violet, liquorice, pepper, and a subtle smoky edge. The palate is elegant yet насыщенный, with juicy dark fruit, silky tannins, and a fresh, linear acidity that keeps everything in perfect balance. The finish is long, mineral, and highly complex. While already impressive now, this wine has excellent aging potential and will continue to evolve gracefully over many years.

Production
The fruit comes from old vines on Hermitage’s historic parcels, including Les Bessards, Le Méal, and Rocoules, where steep slopes and varied soils create exceptional terroir and naturally low yields. The vineyards are worked with respect for nature and sustainable practices, and the grapes are hand-harvested to ensure optimal ripeness. After fermentation, the wine is matured in oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak used to add structure and complexity without masking the precision of the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for rich, flavourful dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, game, braised short ribs, or truffled mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and texture to open fully.
