Description
Paul Giraud Premier Cru de Cognac Grande Champagne Très Rare is an exceptional expression from the heart of Cognac’s most prized cru, Grande Champagne. Built on long ageing and meticulous craftsmanship, it offers remarkable finesse, depth, and elegance—exactly what collectors and Cognac lovers look for in a truly distinguished bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a rich amber to deep mahogany hue, a sign of extended maturation. The nose is layered and refined, with aromas of dried apricot, candied citrus, toasted almond, vanilla, walnut, and subtle rancio notes, all wrapped in a gentle floral lift.
On the palate, it is smooth, concentrated, and beautifully balanced, combining dried fruit, honeyed spice, orange peel, and oak-driven complexity with a long, warming finish. Thanks to its structure and depth, it has excellent ageing potential, though it is already impressive now for those who enjoy mature Cognac.
Production
Produced in Grande Champagne, the premier cru of Cognac, this spirit comes from chalk-rich soils that lend the eaux-de-vie exceptional elegance and long-term ageing potential. The wines are distilled and then matured patiently in oak casks, where slow oxidation and extended cellar ageing develop the depth, texture, and signature rancio character associated with top-tier Cognac.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed neat at room temperature to appreciate its full aromatic complexity, though a large tulip glass can help focus the bouquet. It pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, dried fruits, fine cigars, roasted nuts, or a delicate dessert such as tarte Tatin or crème brûlée. Decanting is not necessary, but allowing the Cognac to rest in the glass for a few minutes will enhance the aromas.
Producer
Paul Giraud is a respected family producer in Cognac, known for working exclusively in Grande Champagne and for staying closely tied to traditional, artisanal methods. The house has built a strong reputation for producing elegant, long-aged Cognacs with purity and depth, making it a favorite among connoisseurs seeking authentic, terroir-driven spirits.
