Description

Pascal Agrapart’s Pinot Avenay Blanc de Noirs 2019 is a distinctive Brut Nature Champagne that showcases the richer, more expressive side of Pinot Noir from Avenay. Crafted from old vines and aged under cork rather than a traditional crown cap, it brings a more layered, textured profile while staying true to Agrapart’s precise, terroir-driven style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vibrant, polished character with aromas of dried apricot, cherry, and peach, lifted by freshly baked bread and dried flowers. The palate is full-bodied and layered, with a generous fruit core, juicy yet lively acidity, and a soft, fine mousse that gives the wine both charm and intensity. The finish is savory and long, with enough structure and concentration to suggest very good aging potential. While already highly enjoyable, it should continue to evolve nicely over the next several years, gaining added complexity and nuance.

Production
Sourced from the south- and southeast-facing lieu-dit Le Champ Saint-Bernard in Avenay, this wine comes from deep clay-rich soils that help shape its broad, textured profile. The vines were planted between 1983 and 1985, giving the cuvée the benefit of mature plant material and naturally balanced fruit. Vinification follows the same approach as the house’s Chardonnay wines, and the wine is aged under cork instead of the more conventional crown cap, a method that can encourage a more layered evolution in bottle.

Food & Serving
This is a Champagne that belongs at the table, where its richness and savory depth can really shine. It pairs beautifully with roast poultry, mushroom dishes, fine charcuterie, aged hard cheeses, or even richer seafood preparations such as scallops or lobster. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a little time in the glass will help the aromatics open further.

Producer
Pascal Agrapart is one of Champagne’s most respected grower-producers, known for precise, site-expressive wines rooted in the Côte des Blancs and beyond. The domaine has earned an exceptional reputation for crafting detailed, mineral-driven Champagnes that balance purity with depth, and Agrapart’s careful work in both vineyard and cellar has made the estate a benchmark for many wine lovers seeking characterful, terroir-focused Champagne.
