Description
Parusso Barolo Bussia is a characterful expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most respected crus, showing the precision, depth, and elegance that make Bussia so sought after. Crafted by Armando Parusso in Monforte d’Alba, it reflects a family journey from farming roots to modern winemaking, balancing innovation with a deep respect for tradition.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby core moving toward garnet at the rim. The bouquet is generous and layered, with red berries, rose petals, earth, spice, and a fresh hint of mint. On the palate, it is rich and structured, yet refined, with noble, finely grained tannins that feel silky and almost sweet in texture.
This is a Barolo built for the table and for time. Its balance of fruit, perfume, and structure suggests excellent aging potential, with the wine likely to gain even more nuance and complexity over the years.
Production
The grapes come from Bussia in Monforte d’Alba, where Barolo’s limestone-rich hillsides and classic Piedmont terroir help Nebbiolo develop aromatic lift, firm structure, and distinctive depth. The fruit is harvested entirely by hand in small perforated baskets, followed by gentle pressing and a long maceration to extract color, flavor, and tannin with care. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, without added sulfites, and the wine is then aged for at least 18 months in small oak barrels while remaining in contact with its native yeasts.
Food & Serving
This Barolo pairs beautifully with truffle dishes, slow-braised meats, roasted game, mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours, especially if opening it young, to allow the aromatics and tannins to fully open.
Producer
Armando Parusso is one of the most dynamic names in Barolo, based in Monforte d’Alba and known for combining meticulous vineyard work with a spirit of experimentation. The estate has earned a strong reputation for producing polished, expressive wines that still stay true to their origin, and Parusso’s commitment to both tradition and refinement has made it a standout producer in Piedmont.
