Description
Château Pape Clément Rouge 2019 is a distinguished Grand Cru Classé de Graves from Pessac-Léognan, one of Bordeaux’s most respected appellations for powerful yet refined red wines. Sourced from a historic estate with centuries of winemaking heritage, this vintage combines depth, elegance, and impressive structure in a style that speaks clearly of its pedigree.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color with a polished, dark-fruited core. The nose is layered and expressive, offering blackcurrant, ripe plum, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle spice, with a hint of toasted oak adding complexity.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with rich dark berry fruit, firm but well-integrated tannins, and a fresh mineral edge that keeps everything in balance. The finish is long and savoury, suggesting excellent aging potential; this is a wine that will reward cellaring over the next 10–20 years, developing greater nuance and softness with time.
Production
Pape Clément comes from the gravelly soils of Pessac-Léognan, where excellent drainage and a temperate Atlantic climate help produce wines with both power and finesse. The grapes are typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, with careful selection to preserve quality, followed by traditional vinification and aging in French oak to build texture, complexity, and structure.
Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for classic dishes such as roast lamb, entrecôte, beef fillet, duck breast, game, and truffle-based cuisine. Serve at 16–18°C, and if drinking young, decant for 1–2 hours to allow the wine to open up and show its full aromatic range.
Producer
Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux, with a history dating back to the 13th century and a name linked to Pope Clement V, who once owned the property. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves, it holds a respected place in the region and is known for producing wines of concentration, elegance, and long-lived character.
