Description

Château Palmer is one of the most iconic estates in Margaux, often mentioned alongside Château Margaux as one of the appellation’s finest. In the 2021 vintage, it delivers the estate’s hallmark blend of perfume, depth, and silky structure, now expressed with even greater precision thanks to its biodynamic approach.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color and immediately opens with an elegant, highly expressive bouquet of blackcurrant, cherry, violet, cedar, and graphite. With air, more nuanced layers emerge: spice, mocha, liquorice, and a subtle earthy undertone that adds complexity and length. On the palate it is medium- to full-bodied, with finely polished tannins and a fresh, lifted acidity that gives the wine poise and energy. The fruit is ripe but never heavy, and the overall impression is seamless, focused, and beautifully harmonious. While already charming in youth, it has excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve gracefully for 20–30 years, developing tertiary notes of leather, forest floor, dried flowers, and spice.

Production
Château Palmer is located on Margaux’s classic gravel plateau, where deep gravel and clay soils provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, while Merlot adds roundness and charm. Under the leadership of winemaker Thomas Duroux, the estate has embraced organic and biodynamic principles, with a strong focus on biodiversity, manual selection, and minimal intervention to let the terroir speak as clearly as possible. Vinification is carried out parcel by parcel in concrete and stainless-steel tanks to preserve precision and detail. After fermentation, the wine is typically matured for around 20 months in French oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new oak adding structure, spice, and depth without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
Château Palmer pairs beautifully with herb-crusted lamb, beef tenderloin, entrecôte, duck confit, and game dishes such as roe deer or pigeon. It also works exceptionally well with mushroom-based dishes, especially those with truffle or wild forest mushrooms, as well as mature firm cheeses like Comté or Salers. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if drinking young.

Producer
Château Palmer has long been regarded as one of the great names of Margaux and a benchmark for elegant, terroir-driven Bordeaux. The estate has earned a reputation for exceptional consistency and a distinctive style that combines fragrance, finesse, and depth. Its move toward biodynamic viticulture under Thomas Duroux has further reinforced its status as one of the most respected producers in the region.
