Palmer 3ème Grand Cru Classé Margaux, 2022

Château Palmer 2022 is a distinguished Margaux red from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated Third Growth estates. Renowned for wines that combine the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the depth and silkiness of Merlot, Palmer is prized for its refinement, aromatic complexity and remarkable capacity to age.

Tasting Notes
Deep garnet-purple in appearance, the wine opens with expressive aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by violet, cedar, graphite and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and precise, with concentrated dark fruit, polished tannins and well-integrated freshness. The finish is long and layered, with mineral and gently savoury notes emerging alongside the fruit. The 2022 vintage has the structure and concentration to develop beautifully over time. While approachable with careful decanting, it should gain further complexity in the bottle over the next decade and can mature gracefully for several decades under suitable cellaring conditions.

Production
The vineyards of Château Palmer lie in the gravel-rich soils of the Margaux appellation, where excellent drainage and heat retention help the vines achieve full ripeness while preserving freshness. The estate’s blend draws on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, with the grapes harvested selectively at optimal maturity. Fermentation takes place parcel by parcel, followed by maturation in French oak, allowing the wine to develop its texture, aromatic detail and long-term structure.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gradually to cellar temperature. Decant for around two hours when drinking the wine young, both to open its aromatic profile and to soften its youthful structure. It pairs beautifully with roast beef, fillet steak, rack of lamb, duck breast and richly flavoured mushroom dishes. Mature hard cheeses also make an excellent match.

Château Palmer is one of the leading estates of Margaux and has been associated with the estate’s distinctive style since the early 19th century, when General Charles Palmer acquired and expanded the property. Although classified as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification, Palmer has long been regarded as a wine of exceptional stature, celebrated for its elegant, aromatic and often Merlot-influenced expression of the Margaux terroir.
