Description
Château Palmer 2016 is a standout Margaux, offering the elegance and perfume the appellation is known for, with the depth and precision of an exceptional vintage. As a 3ème Grand Cru Classé, it combines refinement, complexity and remarkable balance, making it one of the most sought-after wines in Bordeaux. The 2016 vintage has already earned a strong reputation for its purity and impressive structure.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in the glass, this wine shows classic Margaux finesse with a rich, layered profile. The nose is expressive and nuanced, with dark berries, violets, graphite, cedar and subtle spice, unfolding beautifully with time in the glass.
On the palate it is silky yet concentrated, with ripe blackcurrant, plum and blackberry framed by polished tannins and fresh acidity. There is a long, elegant finish with mineral and savory notes, and it has the structure to age gracefully for many years, evolving into even greater complexity over the next two decades or more.
Production
Château Palmer is located in the heart of Margaux, where gravelly soils and the moderating influence of the Gironde estuary help shape wines of fragrance and finesse. The estate is known for meticulous vineyard work and careful parcel selection, with vinification designed to preserve purity, texture and the expression of each plot.
Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds and truffle-based dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.
Producer
Château Palmer is one of the great names of Margaux and has long been regarded as one of Bordeaux’s most distinctive estates. Classified as a 3ème Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it has built a strong reputation for wines that combine aromatic intensity, elegance and longevity, earning consistent praise from collectors and critics alike.
