Ornellaia Bianco 2023

Ornellaia Bianco 2023 is a Sauvignon Blanc from Bolgheri with a softer, more rounded profile than recent vintages, shaped around ripe yellow fruit and a distinctly Mediterranean character. Made by one of Tuscany’s best-known estates, it offers a more generous expression of the coastal region’s white wines.

Tasting Notes
The nose brings together citrus peel, exotic flowers and warm spice, with hints of white pepper and ginger. On the palate, ripe yellow and exotic fruit meet a rounded texture, balanced by freshness and a long, elegant finish. No specific cellaring window is provided, though the 2023 is noted for its length and poise.

Production
The Sauvignon Blanc comes primarily from the Bellaria vineyard, at around 130 metres above sea level, with parcel selection playing a key role in the blend. Fruit from Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia adds a more exotic note, while the estate has emphasized riper, Mediterranean fruit character in this vintage. Fermentation was carried out with close precision and protection from oxygen; the wine then spent ten months on fine lees in barriques, tonneaux and amphorae, with around 30% new French oak. Bâtonnage was frequent at first and gradually reduced.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 10–12°C with shellfish, grilled fish or seafood pasta; it should also suit roast chicken with herbs or dishes featuring citrus and aromatic spices. Decanting is not essential—allowing the wine a little time in the glass should let its aromas unfold.
