Tasting Notes
In the glass, Les Douyes 2019 shows a deep, vibrant ruby-red hue with a subtle purple rim, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose opens with ripe black cherries, wild strawberries and plum compote layered over notes of garrigue herbs, black olive, pepper and a touch of dried lavender and licorice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet finely structured, with silky tannins and a lively backbone that keeps the richness in balance. Flavors of black and red berries mingle with hints of cocoa, tapenade, smoked meat and warm spices, evolving into a long, savory finish. Still youthful, this 2019 has the structure and balance to age gracefully for 8–12 years from vintage, gaining complexity and softer tannins over time.

Production
Les Douyes comes from hillside parcels in Cairanne, where old Grenache and Mourvèdre vines grow on a mix of limestone, clay and stony, sun-drenched slopes typical of the southern Rhône. The Mediterranean climate, cooled by the mistral wind, ensures slow, even ripening and healthy, concentrated fruit. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal maturity with strict sorting in the vineyard and at the winery. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, often with gentle extraction to preserve finesse and purity of fruit, followed by maturation—partly in neutral vessels and sometimes older oak—allowing the wine’s terroir character, rather than heavy oak, to take center stage.

This Cairanne is a natural match for rich, Mediterranean-inspired dishes: think herb-crusted lamb, slow-braised beef or veal, hearty stews, grilled sausages, duck confit or roasted game birds. It also pairs beautifully with ratatouille, mushroom dishes, hard cheeses and charcuterie. Serve at 16–18°C; if the wine is young and just opened, a short decant of 30–60 minutes will help the aromas unfurl and the tannins soften, revealing its full Rhône charm.
