Presented here in its 75 cl format, this Napa Valley red offers a sophisticated, more approachable expression of the estate’s grand vin style. Blending multiple vintages around a 2021 core, Overture delivers the hallmark Opus elegance, structure and depth with a slightly earlier drinking window.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Overture shows a deep, vibrant ruby color with a youthful purple rim, hinting at its concentration and energy. The nose opens with layers of ripe blackcurrant, black cherry and plum, followed by nuances of violets, graphite, cedar and baking spices from refined oak aging. Subtle notes of cocoa, tobacco leaf and dried herbs add complexity as the wine aerates. On the palate, Overture is polished and supple, with a medium to full body framed by fine-grained tannins. Dark berry and cassis flavors are supported by accents of mocha, licorice and sweet spice, with a fresh line of acidity that keeps the wine lively and balanced. The finish is long and silky, revealing hints of sandalwood and savory minerality. While crafted to be enjoyable upon release, this 2021-based Overture has the structure to evolve beautifully over the next 8–12 years under proper cellaring conditions.

Production
Overture is sourced from Opus One’s estate vineyards in Oakville, at the heart of Napa Valley, where well-drained gravel, clay and loam soils sit under a warm, sunny climate moderated by cool evening breezes from San Pablo Bay. The wine is a classic Bordeaux-style blend, typically led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec adding aromatic lift, texture and nuance. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness from multiple parcels, then vinified separately in stainless steel and oak, allowing precise control over extraction and tannin management. Overture is uniquely composed from several vintages—built here around the 2021 harvest and other reserve lots—then aged in French oak barrels (a portion new) before blending, to achieve a seamless, harmonious profile that reflects the Opus One house style.

Food & Serving
This refined Napa red pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb with rosemary, duck breast, or veal chops, as well as richer preparations like short ribs, beef Wellington or wild mushroom risotto. Aged hard cheeses (Comté, aged Gouda) and earthy dishes featuring truffle or roasted root vegetables also work very well. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and balance. Decanting for 45–60 minutes before serving helps the wine open up, especially in its first few years after release, revealing more layers of fruit, spice and floral notes.
