Opus One 2015

Opus One 2015 is one of Napa Valley’s most iconic Bordeaux-style reds, bringing together the precision of California fruit with the elegance and structure associated with great French winemaking. Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 vintage shows a deep garnet-purple color, hinting at its concentration and richness. The bouquet is intense and complex, with ripe black cherry, plum, blackberry pie and redcurrant layered with cinnamon, cloves, mocha, espresso, violets, camphor, and a subtle cigar-box note. On the palate it is full-bodied, broad-shouldered, and luxuriously textured, yet balanced by firm, ripe tannins and freshness. The fruit is plush and generous, but the wine also has the structure and persistence to age gracefully for decades. While approachable now, it will continue to gain nuance and secondary complexity over the next 30+ years.

Production
The grapes come from four carefully selected vineyard parcels in Napa Valley’s Oakville district, a terroir particularly well suited to Bordeaux varieties. The fruit is hand-harvested and rigorously sorted both in the vineyard and again in the cellar after destemming, ensuring only the best grapes make the final blend. Fermentation includes around 18 days of skin contact, followed by 18 months of maturation in new French oak barrels. The wine is then clarified in the traditional way with fresh egg whites before bottling, resulting in a refined, polished style that balances power with finesse.

Food & Serving
Opus One 2015 is a natural match for premium dishes such as beef tenderloin, roast lamb, venison, filet mignon, or truffle-rich preparations, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.

Opus One was born from the meeting of Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi in 1970, a partnership that led to the first vintage in 1979 and the commercial release in 1982. Since then, it has become one of California’s most celebrated and sought-after wines, regarded as a benchmark for luxury Bordeaux-style blends from Napa Valley. In recent vintages, Opus One has earned especially strong critical acclaim, reinforcing its reputation as a modern cult classic.
