Why shop with us?
A distinctive still Pinot Noir from Les Riceys, Olivier Horiot’s En Valingrain 2019 comes from the rare Rosé des Riceys appellation in the southern Champagne region. Unlike sparkling Champagne, this is a still rosé, an appellation with a long local tradition that has been officially recognised since 1947.
Tasting Notes
Rosé des Riceys is known for a deeper, more vinous style than many pale rosés. Expect a rose- to copper-toned colour, with Pinot Noir aromas that may suggest red berries, cherries and subtle savoury or floral notes, followed by a dry, structured palate. The exact tasting profile can vary with the bottle’s development.
Production
En Valingrain is made from Pinot Noir in Les Riceys, in the Côte des Bar, where the region’s Kimmeridgian-influenced soils and continental climate shape the local wines. Rosé des Riceys is produced as a still wine from Pinot Noir; specific details of the 2019 harvest, vineyard practices and vinification are not provided.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, with roast poultry, charcuterie, grilled salmon or dishes featuring mushrooms. A brief rest in the glass can help the wine open; decanting is not usually necessary, though a short decant may suit a mature bottle.
Producer
Olivier Horiot is a grower based in Les Riceys, a village particularly associated with Rosé des Riceys as well as Champagne. His range highlights the character of the local Pinot Noir and the diversity of wines made in this southern part of Champagne.
