Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Syrah shows a deep, vivid color with purple-tinged ruby highlights. The nose is layered and expressive, with blackcurrant, blueberry, violet, lavender, and peppery meaty nuances, all lifted by a subtle mineral edge. The palate is rich yet seamless, with juicy dark fruit framed by salinity, fine-grained tannins, and a cool-climate savory character. Earthy undertones and a vertical, structured finish give the wine impressive depth and balance. While already highly enjoyable, it has the concentration and structure to develop gracefully over the coming years.

The fruit comes from Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Barbara County, one of California’s benchmark cool-climate sites, where maritime influence helps preserve acidity and aromatic precision. Ojai Vineyard is known for picking relatively early to retain balance and terroir expression, and for working with a strong focus on quality, low sulfur use, and minimal intervention. The wine is made without filtration and aged with restraint in oak to preserve purity and finesse.

Ojai Vineyard was founded by Adam Tolmach, a UC Davis graduate who helped shape the modern Santa Barbara wine scene after co-founding Au Bon Climat before launching his own project in the early 1980s. Over the decades, Tolmach has built Ojai into a reference point for thoughtful, site-driven California winemaking, with a strong emphasis on cool vineyards, earlier harvests, organic farming, and elegance over excess.
