Description
Nino Franco Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Rustico Brut is a benchmark Prosecco from one of the most respected producers in the Veneto. Crafted from Glera grapes grown on the steep hills of Valdobbiadene, it showcases a vibrant, dry and elegant style far beyond everyday sparkling wine. The name “Rustico” recalls the old local tradition of making Prosecco in its most authentic, unadorned form, yet today it’s a refined, polished expression of the region’s best terroir.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Rustico Brut shines a pale straw-yellow with a fine, persistent mousse and lively streams of tiny bubbles. The nose is fresh and inviting, offering notes of green apple, Bartlett pear, white peach and lemon zest, layered with delicate hints of acacia blossom and a touch of fresh herbs.
On the palate, it’s crisp, clean and beautifully balanced, with bright acidity that lifts the fruit and a pleasantly dry, mineral-driven finish. Flavours of crunchy orchard fruit, citrus, and a subtle almond note give it depth without heaviness, making it both refreshing and seriously drinkable. This non-vintage Prosecco is best enjoyed within 1–3 years of release to capture its energy and primary fruit, though its structure allows it to hold well over that time when properly stored.
Production
The Glera grapes for Rustico Brut are sourced from the hilly Valdobbiadene zone in Veneto, where steep slopes, well-drained soils and a cool, ventilated climate deliver concentrated yet finely etched fruit. Harvesting is done primarily by hand to protect the delicate grapes on the challenging terrain and to allow careful selection for quality. In the cellar, Nino Franco employs temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel to preserve aromatics, followed by a second fermentation using the Charmat-Martinotti method, which is traditional for Prosecco Superiore. The result is a sparkling wine that captures the purity of the fruit, with a Brut dosage that keeps the style dry, sleek and precise.
Food & Serving
Nino Franco Rustico Brut is a versatile sparkling wine that shines as an aperitif and at the table. It pairs beautifully with seafood such as shrimp, oysters, sushi and simple grilled fish, as well as light antipasti, prosciutto with melon, fresh cheeses, vegetable tempura and delicate pasta dishes. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F) to highlight its crispness and fine bubbles. Decanting is not necessary; simply open and pour gently just before serving to enjoy its freshness at its peak.
Producer
Founded in 1919 in the heart of Valdobbiadene, Nino Franco is one of Prosecco’s historic and pioneering houses, widely credited with helping to elevate the region’s reputation on the world stage. Still family-run, the estate has long focused on expressing the character of Valdobbiadene’s hillside vineyards through meticulous viticulture and a quality-first mindset. Their wines regularly feature in top international restaurant lists and critics’ selections, and Nino Franco is often cited as a reference producer for Prosecco Superiore—showing just how refined, complex and terroir-driven this sparkling wine can be.
