Description

Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne Palmes d'Or Vintage Brut 2009 is the house’s iconic prestige cuvée, crafted only in exceptional years. The 2009 vintage marries Chardonnay’s elegance and finesse with the generous depth of Pinot Noir, resulting in a Champagne of real presence and refinement. Designed for those special moments, it showcases both the richness of the vintage and the remarkable diversity of Champagne’s terroirs.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Palmes d'Or 2009 shows a brilliant, deep golden hue with a fine, persistent mousse that speaks to its long aging on lees. The nose is complex and layered: notes of ripe orchard fruit (baked apple, pear), citrus confit and Mirabelle plum unfold alongside brioche, toasted hazelnut, acacia honey and a hint of chalky minerality. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet impeccably balanced, with Pinot Noir lending volume and structure, and Chardonnay bringing precision and freshness. Flavors of candied lemon peel, stone fruit and white flowers are wrapped in creamy, pastry-like richness, evolving toward roasted nuts, subtle spice and a saline, mineral-driven finish. The texture is silky and refined, with a long, lingering aftertaste. Well-cellared bottles still have several years of positive evolution ahead, with the potential to drink beautifully through the next decade, gaining further complexity in the tertiary spectrum (truffle, honey, dried fruits).

Production
Palmes d'Or 2009 is sourced from some of Champagne’s finest crus, particularly chalk-rich vineyards that accentuate finesse and minerality. The blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir comes primarily from carefully selected parcels, many classified as premier and grand cru, where the cool climate and limestone subsoils provide natural tension and aromatic purity. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure optimal selection of bunches before gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve freshness and varietal character, followed by extended aging on the lees in bottle—typically close to a decade—for depth, texture and complexity. Dosage is kept at a Brut level to highlight the balance between richness, structure and vibrant acidity.

Food & Serving
This is a gastronomic Champagne that pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as lobster or langoustines, scallops in a light butter or citrus sauce, turbot or sole, and delicate poultry preparations like Bresse chicken with cream. It also shines with aged Comté, Parmesan or firm goat cheeses, and can carry you through a full celebratory meal. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally around 9–11 °C (48–52 °F), to allow the aromatics to fully unfold. Decanting is not essential, but opening the bottle 15–20 minutes before serving and pouring into generous tulip-shaped glasses will help reveal its complexity.

Producer
Nicolas Feuillatte is one of Champagne’s most dynamic names, founded in 1976 and built on a cooperative network that now unites thousands of winegrowers across the region. Despite its relatively young history, the house has become one of the best-known Champagne brands in France and abroad, celebrated for its ability to express a broad mosaic of terroirs. Palmes d'Or is the pinnacle of the range—the prestige cuvée—launched to showcase the crème de la crème of its vineyard holdings and the savoir-faire of its winemaking team. Over the years, Nicolas Feuillatte Champagnes have consistently earned strong critical acclaim and a loyal following for their combination of quality, accessibility and distinctive, modern style.
