Nervi-Conterno Gattinara 2020 is a beautifully lifted expression of Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s most distinctive appellations. Elegant, understated and intensely refined, it combines red-fruited perfume, mineral precision and classic northern Italian structure in a way that feels both timeless and deeply specific to Gattinara's historic hillside vineyards.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2020 shows a pale to medium ruby hue, true to Nebbiolo’s graceful style. The nose is ethereal and nuanced, opening with crushed red berries, cinnamon and orange peel, supported by bright, savory and lightly saline notes. The palate is silky and finely etched, with sweet red fruit gradually building through the mid-palate and into a long, persistent finish. It is elegant rather than powerful, with excellent balance and the kind of structure that promises several years of graceful development. A few years in bottle will allow the tannins to soften and the wine’s floral, spicy complexity to become even more expressive.

Production
Gattinara lies in northern Piedmont, where Nebbiolo benefits from the cooler climate and mineral-rich volcanic soils that give the wines their lift, tension and saline edge. The grapes are typically harvested by hand to preserve quality, and the vinification is carried out with a focus on delicacy and site expression, allowing the finesse of the fruit and the natural structure of the grape to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for Piedmontese cuisine, especially braised veal, mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, roast poultry or slow-cooked lamb. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and game birds. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the wine open up and soften.
