Description

Mouton Rothschild 2004 is a classic Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, offering the depth, structure, and polish that have made this First Growth a benchmark for collectors around the world. With its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, it captures the power and refinement that define the Mouton style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this vintage typically shows a deep ruby-garnet color with the kind of brightness that signals both concentration and elegance. The nose is expected to unfold with layers of blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, cigar box, dark plum, and subtle hints of spice and tobacco. On the palate, it is a poised and structured Bordeaux, combining ripe cassis and blackberry fruit with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and the savory, mineral-driven edge that Pauillac is known for. The finish is long and composed, with a balance of power and finesse that should continue to develop beautifully over time. The 2004 vintage already offers plenty of charm, but it still has ample aging potential for those who prefer mature Bordeaux complexity.

Production
Produced from carefully selected vineyards in Pauillac on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Mouton Rothschild benefits from gravel-rich soils that naturally favor Cabernet Sauvignon by encouraging excellent drainage and heat retention. The estate’s meticulous vineyard management and selective harvesting help ensure optimal ripeness and concentration in the fruit. Vinification is traditionally precise and quality-driven, with each parcel vinified separately to preserve the character of the terroir before blending into the final wine. The result is a cuvée known for its structure, depth, and exceptional aging capacity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef Wellington, entrecôte, venison, or duck breast with a rich sauce. It also works wonderfully with hard cheeses and truffle-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the aromatics and texture to open fully.

Producer
Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most iconic names in Bordeaux and has been a First Growth since 1973, the result of a long and historic campaign to have the estate elevated to the top rank. Located in Pauillac, it is renowned not only for the quality of its wines but also for its deep cultural influence, including the famous annual artist labels commissioned for each vintage. Under the stewardship of the Rothschild family, the estate has become a global symbol of prestige, craftsmanship, and excellence.
