Description
Château Montrose 2022 is one of Saint-Estèphe’s most prestigious wines, coming from a historic Second Growth estate known for producing powerful, age-worthy Bordeaux. With its deep structure, impressive balance, and unmistakable Left Bank character, it stands as a benchmark expression of the appellation and a wine with real cellar pedigree.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Montrose 2022 typically shows a deep, inky color that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose is layered and refined, with dark blackberry, cassis, cedar, graphite, and subtle floral and earthy notes unfolding over time.
On the palate, it is expected to be full-bodied and firmly structured, with ripe black fruit, mineral tension, and finely integrated oak supporting a long, precise finish. Like the best wines from Saint-Estèphe, it has the backbone to evolve beautifully over many years, gaining complexity, silkiness, and tertiary nuance with age.
Production
Montrose comes from one of the finest terroirs in Saint-Estèphe, where gravelly soils over clay and a maritime-influenced climate help shape a Cabernet Sauvignon-led style of depth and freshness. The estate is known for careful vineyard management, precise harvesting, and meticulous vinification that emphasizes purity, structure, and aging potential.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs exceptionally well with classic red meat dishes such as ribeye, lamb, venison, or duck breast, as well as rich mushroom-based preparations and hard aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully.
Producer
Château Montrose is one of the great names of Bordeaux, classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Classification and long regarded as a reference point in Saint-Estèphe. The estate has built its reputation on consistency, power, and longevity, and it is widely admired for producing some of the most structured and collectible wines in the Médoc.
