Description
Château Montrose is one of Saint-Estèphe’s most celebrated estates, and the 2021 vintage offers a refined expression of this renowned 2ème Grand Cru Classé property. Known for its power, precision and age-worthy structure, Montrose consistently ranks among the most respected names in Bordeaux. The 2021 vintage captures the estate’s classic style in a more poised, focused frame.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Montrose 2021 typically shows a deep ruby color with a concentrated core. The bouquet is layered and complex, opening with blackcurrant, plum, graphite and cedar, followed by subtle notes of violet, tobacco and earthy spice.
On the palate, it is structured and elegant, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish. The wine’s balance and depth suggest excellent aging potential, and it should reward several years in the cellar as the aromas and texture continue to unfold.
Production
Produced in Saint-Estèphe on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Montrose benefits from gravelly and clay-rich soils that help deliver both concentration and freshness. The estate’s vineyard holdings are known for their excellent drainage and their ability to produce powerful Cabernet Sauvignon-led blends with impressive balance. The grapes are carefully harvested and vinified to preserve precision, structure and the distinctive character of the terroir.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with lamb, beef tenderloin, roast venison and other richly flavored meat dishes, as well as truffled mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended if drinking young, especially to allow the wine’s structure and aromatic complexity to open fully.
Producer
Château Montrose has a long and distinguished history in Bordeaux and holds the status of 2ème Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification. Located in Saint-Estèphe, the estate is admired for producing wines of remarkable longevity, depth and consistency. Over the years, Montrose has earned a reputation as one of the benchmark producers of the appellation and a standout name among Bordeaux collectors.
