Description
Château Montrose 2019 is a standout Saint-Estèphe from one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates, offering the power, structure, and precision that have made this classified growth so highly sought after. As a 2ème Grand Cru Classé, it combines depth of fruit with the firm backbone and classical elegance that define great wines from the Left Bank.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Montrose 2019 shows a deep, concentrated colour that hints at its intensity and age-worthy structure. The nose is layered and refined, with dark berries, cassis, cedar, graphite, and subtle floral and spice nuances unfolding with aeration.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and tightly woven, delivering ripe black fruit, mineral freshness, and polished tannins in a serious, focused frame. The finish is long and persistent, with the balance and concentration to reward cellaring for many years ahead.
Production
Produced in Saint-Estèphe on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Montrose benefits from gravelly, well-drained soils that help shape the wine’s depth and structure, while the estate’s proximity to the estuary contributes to a moderating maritime influence. The 2019 vintage was harvested parcel by parcel to ensure optimal ripeness, and vinification was carried out with careful extraction to preserve purity, precision, and the estate’s hallmark balance.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent partner for classic dishes such as roast lamb, grilled ribeye, duck breast, game, or slow-braised beef, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for a few hours if drinking young to help the wine open and show its full aromatic complexity.
Producer
Château Montrose is one of Saint-Estèphe’s benchmark estates, with a long history and a strong reputation for producing powerful, age-worthy Bordeaux wines. Classified as a 2ème Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it has remained a reference point in the region for its consistency, depth, and ability to produce wines of remarkable longevity.
