Description
Château Montrose 2010 is a benchmark Saint-Estèphe, ranked as a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification and widely admired for its precision, depth, and long-lived structure. From one of the most respected estates on the Left Bank, it combines power with remarkable refinement—an impressive expression of a great vintage in Bordeaux.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in the glass, the 2010 Montrose shows the dark, concentrated colour expected of a wine built for the long haul. The nose is layered and classical, with notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and a touch of violet, gradually opening to reveal earthy and mineral nuances.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and tightly structured, with firm yet polished tannins supporting rich dark fruit, savory oak, and a strong core of freshness. The finish is long and persistent, marked by spice, gravelly minerality, and excellent balance. This is a wine with significant aging potential and will continue to evolve beautifully over many years.
Production
The wine comes from Château Montrose’s renowned vineyards in Saint-Estèphe, where deep gravelly soils and a cooler maritime-influenced climate help produce Cabernet Sauvignon-driven wines of great structure and longevity. The estate is known for careful parcel selection and meticulous harvesting, with grapes typically picked at optimal ripeness to preserve balance and aromatic complexity. Vinification is carried out with precision to capture concentration, purity, and the distinctive character of the terroir.
Food & Serving
Best served with robust dishes such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, game, duck breast, or slow-braised short ribs, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if drinking young or while still in a youthful phase to allow the wine to fully open.
Producer
Château Montrose is one of the standout estates of Saint-Estèphe, with a long history dating back to the early 19th century and a reputation for producing powerful, ageworthy Bordeaux. Classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it has earned a place among the elite wines of the Left Bank. Over the decades, the château has built a strong international reputation for quality, consistency, and longevity, with the 2010 vintage standing as a fine example of its excellence.
