Description
Monsupello Nature Metodo Classico is a refined Italian sparkling wine from Lombardy, crafted in the traditional method to highlight purity and precision. Made primarily from Pinot Nero with a touch of Chardonnay, it is bottled as a ‘Nature’ (Brut Nature) style, meaning no dosage is added, allowing the terroir to speak with clarity. This cuvée has become a reference point for serious Italian sparkling wine lovers, showing just how elegant and complex Oltrepò Pavese can be.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Monsupello Nature Metodo Classico shows a luminous straw-yellow hue with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate, continuous mousse. The nose is fresh and refined, opening with notes of green apple, pear, citrus zest and white flowers, followed by hints of brioche, toasted nuts and a subtle mineral edge from extended lees contact.
On the palate, it is dry, taut and beautifully linear, with vibrant acidity and a very clean, savory finish. Flavors of lemon peel, crisp orchard fruit and a touch of stone fruit are layered over nuances of pastry cream, almond and chalk. The Brut Nature style gives it a razor-sharp precision, making it particularly food-friendly. This non-vintage cuvée is ready to drink on release but will evolve gracefully over the next 3–5 years, gaining a bit more roundness and complexity while maintaining its underlying freshness.
Production
Sourced from hillside vineyards in Lombardy’s Oltrepò Pavese area, Monsupello Nature Metodo Classico benefits from a mix of calcareous and clay-rich soils that contribute both structure and finesse. The grapes, predominantly Pinot Nero with Chardonnay, are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve acidity and aromatic purity. After a gentle pressing, the base wines are fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel to retain freshness, then blended and bottled for the second fermentation in the traditional Metodo Classico. The wine spends an extended period aging on its lees, developing fine bubbles and complexity, and is disgorged without dosage, resulting in a pure, bone-dry expression of the terroir.
Food & Serving
This sparkling wine is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with oysters, shellfish, crudo, sushi and delicate fish dishes, as well as tempura, lightly fried seafood, fresh goat cheese and vegetable-based starters. Its precision and dryness also make it an excellent match for charcuterie and fine cured hams. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F) to highlight its freshness and fine mousse. Decanting is not necessary, but pouring the first glass and giving the bottle a few minutes in the glass will allow the subtle autolytic and mineral notes to unfurl.
