Description
Monsupello Blanc de Blancs Metodo Classico Extra Brut is a refined Italian sparkling wine crafted in the heart of Lombardy, showcasing the elegance and purity of carefully selected white grapes. Made in the traditional method, it delivers the finesse and complexity you’d expect from top grower Champagne, but with a distinctly Italian personality. This non-vintage cuvée draws on a deep regional heritage of sparkling wine production, positioning Monsupello as one of Oltrepò Pavese’s benchmark producers for Metodo Classico.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Blanc de Blancs shows a bright straw-yellow color with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate, continuous bead. The mousse is creamy yet precise, giving an immediate impression of freshness and refinement.
On the nose, expect lifted aromas of citrus zest, green apple, white flowers and fresh almond, layered with subtle notes of brioche, yeast and a touch of minerality from its time on the lees. The palate is dry and focused, with Extra Brut dosage highlighting crisp acidity and a clean, linear profile. Flavors of lemon, pear and golden apple intertwine with hints of toasted bread and hazelnut, leading to a long, savory finish. Enjoy it now for its vibrant energy, or cellar for a few years to allow the more complex, autolytic notes to deepen and evolve.
Production
Sourced from hillside vineyards in Lombardy’s Oltrepò Pavese area, Monsupello’s Blanc de Blancs benefits from calcareous-clay soils and a temperate climate that encourages slow, even ripening of the white grape varieties, primarily Chardonnay. Grapes are hand-harvested at relatively low sugar levels to preserve natural acidity and aromatic finesse, then gently pressed to obtain only the finest free-run juice. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel to retain purity and freshness, followed by a secondary fermentation in the bottle according to the Metodo Classico. The wine then ages on its lees for an extended period, developing complexity, texture and fine mousse before disgorgement and a very low Extra Brut dosage.
Food & Serving
This Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs is an outstanding aperitif and an ideal partner for refined seafood dishes such as oysters, scallop crudo, shrimp tartare and sushi, as well as delicate fish carpaccios and tempura. It also pairs beautifully with fresh goat cheese, soft cheeses, vegetable terrines and light poultry dishes. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F) to emphasize its precision and freshness. Decanting is not necessary, but pouring into tall, tulip-shaped flutes or all-purpose white wine glasses will best showcase its aromas and fine perlage.
