Description
Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin is a distinctive London Dry-style gin from Germany’s Black Forest, renowned for its complex recipe of 47 botanicals. With its striking balance of bright citrus, aromatic herbs, warm spice and forest-floor character, it offers far more depth than a conventional gin.
Aroma & Palate
The nose is layered and expressive, combining juniper with lively citrus peel, floral notes, fresh herbs and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet precise, bringing together tart fruit, peppery spice, earthy woodland botanicals and a gentle sweetness. The finish is long and warming, with juniper, citrus and a lingering herbal complexity.
Distillation & Maturation
Monkey 47 is crafted from 47 botanicals gathered from around the world, including ingredients associated with the Black Forest. The gin is distilled in small batches and made with soft local spring water, before resting in traditional earthenware crocks for around 100 days. This maturation period allows the botanical flavours to harmonise and develop additional depth.
Serving Suggestions
Enjoy it neat or over ice when you want to explore its full aromatic profile. For a refreshing serve, pair it with a premium neutral or lightly floral tonic and a twist of grapefruit or lemon, keeping the garnish restrained. It also works particularly well in a Martini, Negroni or other spirit-forward gin cocktails.
Distillery
Monkey 47 was created in Germany’s Black Forest by Alexander Stein, drawing inspiration from British gin tradition, Indian botanicals and the region’s local flora. The brand’s name reflects its distinctive recipe of 47 botanicals and its 47% alcohol strength. Its meticulous small-batch approach has made it one of Germany’s best-known premium gins.
