Description
Massolino Barbaresco 2023 is a graceful, site-spanning expression of Nebbiolo from three respected Barbaresco crus: Albesani, Starderi and Serraboella. Co-fermented for seamless balance, it combines elegance, perfume and texture in a style that is immediately inviting, yet built with the classic structure of one of Piedmont’s most historic appellations.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, lifted ruby-garnet hue with the translucent sheen typical of fine Nebbiolo. The nose opens with red and lightly purple-toned fruit, rose petals, blood orange, cinnamon and a cool hint of mint, giving the wine a sensual, layered aromatic profile.
On the palate, the wine is polished and supple at first, with soft contours framing its core of vibrant fruit and floral spice. Fresh acidity and fine tannins provide definition and length, suggesting excellent aging potential while remaining approachable in its youth.
Production
This Barbaresco draws fruit from Albesani, Starderi and Serraboella, three sites known for producing wines with aromatic complexity, finesse and tannic precision. The grapes are co-fermented, a choice that helps integrate the different vineyard characters into a more harmonious final blend. As a Piedmont Nebbiolo, the wine reflects the region’s limestone- and marl-driven soils, which typically contribute freshness, fragrance and structure.
Food & Serving
Serve with braised veal, mushroom risotto, roasted duck, truffle dishes or aged hard cheeses. A serving temperature of 16-18°C works best to bring out both the perfume and the fine structure, and decanting for around 1-2 hours is recommended if enjoyed young.
Producer
Massolino is one of Piedmont’s most respected names, best known for its long-standing commitment to traditional winemaking and its deep roots in the Langhe. The estate has built a strong reputation through precise, terroir-driven wines from top sites in Barolo and Barbaresco, and is widely admired for combining authenticity, finesse and consistency across vintages.
