Tasting Notes
In the glass, Masseto 2012 shows a deep, intense color that hints at its concentration and richness. The bouquet is layered and expressive, with ripe cherry, blackberry, and plum lifted by spice, cocoa, liquorice, and a subtle touch of toasted oak. The palate is dense yet beautifully silky, with generous dark fruit held in check by lively acidity and a finely woven tannic structure. Creamy, focused, and long on the finish, it offers both immediate charm and the kind of depth that promises graceful development over many years.

Production
Masseto 2012 comes from the blue clay soils of Bolgheri in Tuscany, where the vineyard’s unique terroir is central to the wine’s identity. The vintage saw a cold, dry winter, a mild spring, and a hot summer with very little rainfall, followed by timely late-August and early-September showers that helped the Merlot reach optimal physiological ripeness. Harvest extended from 29 August to 17 September, allowing for meticulous parcel-by-parcel selection. In the cellar, each parcel was vinified separately to preserve the nuances of the site. The wine then matured for 24 months in new French barriques, followed by 12 months of bottle aging, resulting in a wine of depth, precision, and layered complexity.

Masseto 2012 pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, game birds, truffle-infused pasta, and aged hard cheeses. Serve it at 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the aromas and textures to fully open.
