Tasting Notes
In the glass, Masseto 2009 shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its richness and intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, unfolding with ripe black cherries, plums, liquorice, coffee, dark chocolate, warm spice, and subtle earthy notes of dry soil and oak. The palate is full-bodied, dense, and powerful, yet remarkably polished. Plush dark fruit sits at the core, supported by refined tannins, a deep mineral thread, and a vibrant acidity that keeps the wine lifted and fresh. The finish is long and resonant, with lingering spice, ripe fruit, and a touch of warmth. While delicious now for its opulence and generosity, it has the structure to continue evolving gracefully for many years.

Production
Masseto 2009 comes from the iconic blue clay soils of Bolgheri, whose exceptional water retention helped the vines sustain ripeness through a hot, dry summer. After hand harvesting and strict selection, each parcel was vinified separately to preserve its individual character. Fermentation was followed by 15–20 days of maceration at controlled temperatures, then malolactic fermentation in new barriques, and an élevage that included separate aging before final blending and an additional year in barrel, followed by 12 months in bottle before release.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for rich, flavour-driven dishes such as grilled beef, lamb, game, truffle pasta, or slow-braised short ribs. Serve at around 16–18°C and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now, to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open.
