Description
Château Margaux 2001 is a benchmark Left Bank Bordeaux, combining aristocratic elegance with the structure and finesse that define this legendary First Growth. From one of the most historic estates in the Médoc, it offers a classic expression of Margaux: refined, perfumed, and beautifully layered.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet core with a brick-tinted rim, reflecting graceful maturity. The bouquet is classically Bordeaux, opening with cedar, dried rose petals, tobacco, graphite, cassis, and subtle earth, alongside hints of truffle and sweet spice.
On the palate it is poised and silky, with refined tannins, bright acidity, and a long, mineral finish. The fruit is now in a more mature register, with blackcurrant, plum, and dried cherry supported by savory notes and polished oak. While it is drinking beautifully now, the 2001 still has enough structure to hold for several more years in a good cellar.
Production
Produced in Margaux within Bordeaux’s Left Bank, this wine comes from gravel-rich soils that promote excellent drainage and contribute to the estate’s signature precision and aromatic lift. The 2001 vintage was vinified with the meticulous standards associated with Château Margaux, typically involving careful parcel selection and traditional fermentation methods designed to preserve purity and balance. The result is a wine that reflects both its exceptional terroir and the estate’s exacting winemaking philosophy.
Food & Serving
Best served with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or game with mushroom-based sauces. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and decant for 1–2 hours if enjoying now, especially to allow the mature aromas to open fully.
Producer
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates and has been recognised as a First Growth in the 1855 Classification. With a history stretching back centuries, it is considered a reference point for elegance and longevity in fine wine. The estate has earned global acclaim for wines that combine perfume, finesse, and exceptional ageing potential.
