Description
Marchesi di Barolo Langhe Nebbiolo Bric Amel 2024 is a vibrant, early-drinking expression of Nebbiolo from the rolling hills of Piedmont. Crafted to showcase the grape’s perfumed, fruit-forward side, it delivers elegance without the austerity often associated with more structured Nebbiolo wines. This cuvée draws on Langhe’s patchwork of soils and microclimates to offer a harmonious, approachable red that still speaks clearly of its noble origins.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Bric Amel 2024 shows a luminous, medium ruby color with delicate garnet highlights at the rim. The nose is open and inviting, with lifted aromas of red cherries, wild strawberries, and raspberries layered with notes of rose petals, violet, subtle licorice, and a hint of sweet spice.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and supple, with fine, silky tannins that are already well integrated. Juicy red fruit flavors are joined by hints of cranberry, pomegranate, and gentle herbal notes, all balanced by fresh, lively acidity. The finish is clean and persistent, emphasizing purity of fruit and floral nuance rather than power. Enjoyable now for its youthful charm, it will gain a bit of additional complexity over the next 3–5 years, but it is very much crafted to be appreciated in its early drinking window.
Production
The Nebbiolo grapes for Bric Amel 2024 come from selected vineyards in the Langhe, where soils rich in quartz sand and fine silt help to emphasize aromatic intensity and finesse. These well-drained, mineral-laden parcels, combined with the area’s varied exposures and altitudes, give Nebbiolo a particularly fragrant and approachable character. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection in the vineyard, then gently crushed and fermented in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve bright fruit and floral notes. A moderate maceration allows color and fine tannins to be extracted without excessive grip, followed by aging in a combination of stainless steel and large, neutral wood to round the texture while keeping the wine’s fresh, youthful profile front and center.
Food & Serving
This Langhe Nebbiolo is an excellent partner for a wide range of dishes, from classic Piedmontese specialties like vitello tonnato, tajarin pasta with ragù, and mushroom risotto to grilled poultry, pork, charcuterie, and semi-aged cheeses. Its bright acidity and fine tannins also make it a versatile match for tomato-based pastas and pizza with cured meats. Serve at 16–18°C (about 60–64°F) to highlight its aromatics and fresh fruit. A brief 20–30 minute aeration in a carafe or by simply opening the bottle ahead of time will help the bouquet open up, though extended decanting is not necessary for this youthful, fruit-driven style.
