Description
Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Cannubi 2021 is a distinguished expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most celebrated vineyards. Sourced from the historic Cannubi cru, it combines finesse, structure, and remarkable aromatic depth, reflecting both the pedigree of the site and the craftsmanship of one of Piedmont’s most iconic producers.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a garnet hue with ruby highlights, hinting at its youthful elegance and classic Barolo profile. The nose is layered and refined, with aromas of red cherry, rose petal, dried herbs, spice, and subtle earthy notes that unfold with air.
On the palate, it is poised and firmly structured, with bright acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a core of red berry fruit balanced by savory, mineral, and floral nuances. This is a wine built for aging, and while approachable with decanting in its youth, it should develop greater complexity over the coming years, gaining truffle, leather, and dried-fruit character.
Production
The Cannubi vineyard is among the most renowned crus in Barolo, prized for its ideal exposure and soils that help Nebbiolo achieve a rare balance of perfume, power, and elegance. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to preserve fruit integrity, and vinification follows a traditional yet polished approach designed to extract color, aroma, and tannin without losing finesse.
Food & Serving
This Barolo is an excellent match for rich, savory dishes such as braised beef, roasted game, truffle risotto, porcini mushrooms, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully and soften its tannins.
Producer
Marchesi di Barolo is one of the legendary names in Piedmont, closely linked to the history and identity of Barolo wine. With deep roots in the region and a long-standing reputation for quality, the estate has played an important role in shaping Barolo’s prestige and remains admired for producing wines that combine tradition, elegance, and age-worthiness.
