Description
Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2023 is a distinguished Tuscan red from the renowned Tenuta Tignanello estate, combining the traditional character of Sangiovese with the refined structure of Cabernet Franc. Produced only in the best vintages and classified DOCG, it reflects a long-standing Chianti tradition while offering the depth and polish associated with one of Italy’s most respected wine families.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby-red colour, with the intensity and concentration expected of a Riserva. Its aromatic profile brings together ripe red and dark berries with floral nuances, subtle spice and well-integrated oak. On the palate, Sangiovese provides freshness, savoury character and fine-grained tannins, while Cabernet Franc contributes structure and aromatic complexity. The finish is long, balanced and persistent, with fruit, spice and elegant balsamic notes developing over time.
Thanks to its structure, acidity and careful oak maturation, the 2023 can be enjoyed now with decanting or cellared for several years, allowing its tannins and layered aromas to soften and evolve further.
Production
The grapes come from Tenuta Tignanello vineyards in the Tuscan Chianti region, planted at elevations of up to 700 metres in marl-rich, calcareous soils with limited clay and sand. The vines are trained using Guyot, spurred cordon and traditional Tuscan arched systems, while the estate’s microclimate encourages slow, even ripening. Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc are carefully selected by both bunch and berry, gently pressed after destemming and fermented in stainless-steel tanks. Maceration involves gentle pumping over and délestage to preserve the tannins’ supple character. The wine is then matured separately in French and Hungarian oak barriques before bottling, followed by approximately one year of bottle ageing.
Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C to highlight the wine’s freshness and aromatic detail. Decant for around 30–60 minutes when serving young, particularly alongside a substantial meal. Its structure and savoury Tuscan character pair beautifully with Florentine steak, roast lamb, game, slow-cooked beef, wild boar ragù, aged hard cheeses and richly flavoured mushroom dishes.
Producer
Antinori is one of Italy’s historic wine families, with a winemaking tradition dating back to 1385. The family’s Tenuta Tignanello estate has played an important role in the modern development of high-quality Tuscan wine and is internationally recognised for its meticulous vineyard work and expressive Sangiovese-based wines. Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva showcases this heritage by combining the traditions of the Chianti region with careful selection, precise vinification and extended maturation.
