Description

Marcello Brunetti Langhe Rosso 2022 is an expressive, small‑production Syrah from the hills of Piemonte, crafted with a clear focus on purity and finesse. This is a natural, hands‑off wine that places the character of the grape and the Langhe terroir front and center, without makeup or manipulation. Combining traditional methods with a minimalist philosophy, Brunetti offers a Syrah that feels both authentically Piedmontese and intriguingly modern.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Langhe Rosso 2022 typically shows a vibrant ruby to deep garnet hue, with a slightly unfiltered, living appearance that reflects its natural upbringing. The nose is pure and engaging, suggesting dark berries, black cherry and plum, layered with peppery spice, violet, scrubby herbs and a gentle earthy, savory undertone from its time in old barrels. On the palate, the wine is medium‑bodied yet surprisingly intense, with juicy dark fruit, cracked black pepper, hints of spice and a faint gamey note that is characteristic of well‑grown Syrah. Tannins are fine‑grained and lightly rustic, giving structure without harshness, while fresh acidity keeps everything lively and food‑friendly. The absence of added sulfites and filtration preserves a tactile, almost textural energy on the tongue. Enjoyable now for its vibrancy and authenticity, it should evolve gracefully over the next 3–5 years, gaining complexity and softer edges if stored correctly.

Production
Sourced from the rolling hills of Piemonte’s Langhe, this Syrah grows in a cool, breezy climate with well‑drained, predominantly calcareous and clay‑limestone soils that naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor. Grapes are carefully hand‑harvested at optimal ripeness, then gently foot‑trodden so that whole clusters, including stems, remain intact. Fermentation proceeds spontaneously with native yeasts, without over‑pumping or mechanical extraction, allowing a slow, gentle infusion of color and tannin. The wine is moved and aged using gravity, not pumps, and matures in old barrels to avoid overt oak influence. No oenological products, no added sulfites, no fining and no filtration are employed, resulting in a genuinely natural expression, bottled by gravity to preserve its integrity.

Food & Serving
This natural Langhe Syrah is a versatile partner for rustic yet refined dishes: think charcuterie, grilled sausages, roast chicken with herbs, braised lamb, wild mushroom risotto, or simple pasta with ragù. It also pairs beautifully with hard cheeses like aged Pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano and with savory vegetable dishes featuring eggplant, lentils or roasted root vegetables. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both fruit and spice. A light decant of 20–30 minutes is recommended, especially in its youth, to let any initial reduction blow off and to open up the wine’s aromatic complexity.

Producer
Marcello Brunetti is a rising talent in Piemonte, part of a new generation of winemakers committed to low‑intervention, terroir‑driven wines. Working on a small scale and often by hand, Brunetti focuses on traditional practices—like foot‑treading and gravity‑flow cellars—combined with a strict natural philosophy in the cellar. In a region famed for Nebbiolo, his work with Syrah stands out for its originality and sensitivity, offering an alternative lens on Langhe terroir. Though still early in his career, Brunetti is already gaining attention among enthusiasts seeking honest, minimal‑intervention wines that faithfully reflect both place and vintage.
