Description

Marc Kreydenweiss’s 2018 Moenchberg Grand Cru is a complex, organically produced Pinot Gris from one of Alsace’s historic vineyard sites. Vines were cultivated here by a Benedictine abbey as early as 1097, and the wine balances ripe fruit and savoury depth with impressive structure and minerality.

Tasting Notes
The nose opens with ripe yellow stone fruit and subtle earthy notes. Given time in the glass, it develops savoury, umami-like layers of soy, miso and hints reminiscent of Japanese dashi. The colour is not specified in the tasting notes.

Production
Moenchberg’s marl and sandstone soils are described as particularly well suited to Pinot Gris. The wine is identified as organic, but details of harvesting and vinification are not provided.
