Mamete Prevostini’s Valtellina Superiore Sassella Marena is a graceful expression of Nebbiolo from one of Lombardy’s most characterful hillside zones. Combining elegance, structure, and the mineral edge of Valtellina’s steep terraces, it shows why Sassella has long been admired for wines with both finesse and personality.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, light ruby-red colour that hints at its delicacy and refinement. The nose is intense yet polished, with notes of morello cherry, hazelnut, and small red berries, framed by a subtle, savory complexity. On the palate, it is harmonious, velvety, and warm, with a refined texture and a long, persistent finish. The wine’s balance of fragrance, depth, and structure suggests good aging potential, allowing its Nebbiolo character to evolve beautifully over time.

Production
This wine comes from the Valtellina Superiore Sassella area, in the communes of Castione and Sondrio, where vineyards sit at 350 to 550 metres above sea level with south-facing exposure. The soils are predominantly sandy with some clay, free of limestone, and marked by granite flakes and only occasional clay, giving the wine its distinctive mineral profile. Harvest begins around 7 October, and the wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo, capturing the elegance and power of this unique terroir.

Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with classic northern Italian dishes such as braised meats, game, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses, where its structure and aromatic depth can shine. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and decant briefly if served young to allow its aromas to open fully.
