Lungarotti Torgiano Rosso Riserva Rubesco Vigna Monticchio 2020

Lungarotti’s Rubesco Vigna Monticchio is a benchmark Sangiovese from Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG, offering the kind of elegance and depth that has made Umbrian reds so respected. Named after the Latin verb *rubescere*—“to blush”—Rubesco is a fitting tribute to Italian winemaking tradition, combining refined fruit, structure, and a distinctly regional character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red color with violet reflections. The nose is expressive and layered, with sour cherry and violet at the forefront, followed by refined oak-derived notes of cocoa and coffee. The palate is warm and harmonious, with a complex, slightly balsamic fruit profile, lively freshness, and attractive, fine-grained tannins. A long finish brings a pleasant spicy edge of pepper and clove. While already impressive now, it has the structure to develop gracefully over time.

Production
Made from 100% Sangiovese from Vigna Monticchio in the Torgiano area of Umbria, this wine reflects a terroir that lends both freshness and finesse to the variety. The grapes are harvested with care and vinified to preserve the grape’s natural vibrancy while building depth and structure through attentive cellar work and oak maturation.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted game, braised meats, grilled lamb, truffle dishes, and aged pecorino. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour if drinking young to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic complexity.
