Lungarotti L’UM 2023 is a still white wine from Torgiano, Umbria, blending Vermentino’s aromatic character with Chardonnay’s structure. Its name pays tribute to Umbria, while the label features an 18th-century satyr drawing held at the local wine museum. The supplied grape and production details describe L’UM Bianco, although the product title says “Rosso”; this description follows the white-wine information provided.
Tasting Notes
Bright straw yellow with greenish reflections, it opens with white flowers, green apple, peach and citrus, followed by hints of mango and other exotic fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and rounded from time on fine lees, balanced by lively citrus acidity. It finishes long, with subtle notes of hazelnut and toasted brioche. No specific ageing potential is provided.
Production
The grapes come from Lungarotti’s vineyards in Torgiano, where deep, medium-textured soils with a notable clay content contribute structure. The vines are trained using spur-pruned and Guyot systems, and the grapes are harvested in mid-September to balance aromatic ripeness with freshness. After careful selection, only free-run must is used. A short cold maceration precedes temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel; the wine then rests on fine lees before bottling.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C. Its fresh acidity and medium body make it a natural match for seafood, grilled fish, shellfish, vegetable dishes and lighter poultry preparations. Decanting is not necessary; allow the wine a few minutes in the glass to reveal its aromas.
Producer
Lungarotti is a historic family estate closely associated with Torgiano and the wider Umbrian wine region. Today, Maria Grazia, Chiara and Teresa lead the winery, continuing its heritage while pursuing sustainable viticulture, research and innovation. The estate also has a notable history of female expertise in winemaking, including one of Italy’s pioneering female oenologists.
