Description
Lungarotti Dulcis is a charming Italian dessert wine crafted from Trebbiano grapes grown in the heart of Umbria. Blending freshness with gentle sweetness, it offers an approachable, modern take on classic Italian dolce wines. Made as a non‑vintage cuvée, Dulcis is carefully assembled for consistency of style, delivering balance and easy drinkability year after year.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Lungarotti Dulcis typically shows a bright straw to pale gold hue, with luminous reflections that hint at its vibrant acidity. The nose is inviting and fragrant, suggesting notes of ripe orchard fruits—think pear, baked apple and white peach—alongside hints of acacia blossom, honey and a touch of citrus zest.
On the palate, Dulcis is medium‑sweet rather than heavy or cloying, with a lively backbone of acidity that keeps the wine fresh and energetic. Flavors of candied lemon peel, honeyed apple, pear compote and a light floral character unfold in a smooth, silky texture, finishing clean with a delicate, lingering sweetness. Enjoy it in its youth for maximum fruit expression and vibrancy; while it can hold for a few years in bottle, Lungarotti Dulcis is crafted primarily for early, pleasurable drinking rather than long‑term cellaring.
Production
Lungarotti Dulcis is born from Trebbiano vines rooted in the rolling hills of Umbria, where clay‑limestone soils, ample sunshine and good diurnal shifts help preserve aromatic freshness while building ripe flavor. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, often with a focus on clean, healthy fruit to capture pure varietal character and a naturally elevated sugar level suited to a dessert style. In the cellar, the must is gently pressed, then fermented at controlled, cool temperatures to retain bright aromatics. Fermentation is typically halted before all sugars are converted to alcohol, leaving a natural residual sweetness, after which the wine is matured briefly in tank to preserve its fresh, fruit‑driven profile before blending and bottling as a non‑vintage cuvée.
Food & Serving
Lungarotti Dulcis is a versatile dessert wine that pairs beautifully with fruit‑based pastries, almond cakes, panna cotta, light cheesecakes and classic Italian biscotti. It also works well with mild blue cheeses or aged pecorino served with honey and nuts, and can be enjoyed simply on its own as a meditative end to a meal. Serve lightly chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness and fragrance. Decanting is not necessary; simply open and pour, allowing a few minutes in the glass for the aromas to fully unfold.
Producer
Lungarotti is one of Umbria’s benchmark family‑owned estates and a key name in modern Italian wine. Founded by the visionary Giorgio Lungarotti, the winery was instrumental from the 1960s onwards in putting Umbria on the international wine map, notably through the pioneering Rubesco wines from Torgiano. Today, Giorgio’s daughters Chiara and Teresa helm the estate, continuing a legacy that combines quality, hospitality and culture: Lungarotti also created renowned wine and olive oil museums and a luxury hotel that make Torgiano a reference point for wine tourism in central Italy. Deeply committed to sustainability, the family has invested in green energy and circular use of by‑products from the vineyards and cellar, now covering the vast majority of their energy needs from renewable sources—an approach that reinforces Lungarotti’s reputation as both a regional icon and a forward‑thinking producer.
