Description
Lungarotti Brut Rosé NV is a refined Italian sparkling rosé from the rolling hills of Umbria, crafted from an intriguing blend of Sangiovese and Pinot Grigio. Elegant, dry, and refreshingly vibrant, it offers an alternative to classic Prosecco and Franciacorta with a distinctly Umbrian character. As one of the region’s pioneering estates, Lungarotti channels decades of expertise into a sparkling wine that balances finesse, fruit, and a subtle gastronomic structure.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Lungarotti Brut Rosé NV shows a delicate, luminous pink hue with fine, persistent bubbles that create a lively and continuous mousse. The nose opens with red berry notes—think wild strawberries and crushed raspberries—layered with hints of pomegranate, citrus zest, and a light floral tone reminiscent of rose petals and spring blossoms.
On the palate, it is dry, crisp, and beautifully balanced, with Sangiovese contributing juicy red fruit and a gentle backbone of tannin, while Pinot Grigio brings freshness and lift. Expect flavors of red currant, cranberry, and pink grapefruit, framed by subtle brioche and mineral notes from time on the lees. The finish is clean and refreshing, with a fine, saline edge that invites another sip. Enjoy it now for its vibrancy, though a couple of years of cellaring may add a bit more roundness and complexity without being essential.
Production
Sourced from hillside vineyards in Umbria, Lungarotti Brut Rosé NV reflects a terroir of clay-limestone soils and a continental climate tempered by gentle breezes that preserve acidity and aromatic precision. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at night or in the cool of early morning to protect their delicate aromas and ensure optimal freshness. After a gentle pressing, Sangiovese and Pinot Grigio are vinified with great care; a brief maceration on the skins for Sangiovese provides the pale rosé color. The base wines are blended and undergo a secondary fermentation to create the fine sparkle, followed by aging on the lees to enhance texture, complexity, and the graceful, creamy mousse.
Food & Serving
This Brut Rosé is a versatile food wine, ideal as an aperitif but equally at home throughout a meal. Pair it with charcuterie, salmon tartare, tuna carpaccio, or sushi, as well as grilled prawns, scallops, or light pasta dishes with tomato and fresh herbs. It also works beautifully with soft cheeses, bruschetta, and Mediterranean antipasti. Serve well-chilled at 6–8°C (43–46°F). Decanting is not necessary; simply open and pour, allowing a few minutes in the glass for the aromas to unfurl.
Producer
Lungarotti is one of Italy’s leading family-owned wineries and the reference point for quality wine in Umbria. Founded by Giorgio Lungarotti, the estate gained international recognition in the 1960s when he helped put Umbria on the global wine map, particularly with the creation of the iconic Rubesco, whose Riserva has been ranked among Italy’s very best wines and consistently earns top scores in Gambero Rosso. Today, Giorgio’s daughters, Chiara and Teresa, guide the estate with the same pioneering spirit, expanding Lungarotti’s reputation for excellence while championing sustainable practices—currently covering around 70% of energy needs with resources from the vineyards, with the goal of reaching full self-sufficiency. Alongside wine and olive oil production, Lungarotti has become a cultural destination, with wine and olive oil museums and a five-star hotel in Torgiano, underscoring its significance as both a benchmark producer and an ambassador for Umbrian wine tourism.
