Description

Luigi Boveri Filari di Timorasso 2023 is a vibrant, characterful white wine from the rolling hills of Piedmont, showcasing one of Italy’s most intriguing native grapes. Timorasso has earned a cult following for its rare combination of freshness, texture and age-worthiness, and this bottling is a textbook expression. Crafted in small quantities, it captures the mineral drive and complexity that have made Timorasso one of the most exciting whites in northern Italy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Filari di Timorasso 2023 shows a bright straw-yellow color with greenish reflections that hint at its youthful energy. The nose opens with notes of ripe citrus, white peach and golden apple, layered with acacia blossom, chamomile and a pronounced stony, almost saline minerality. With a little air, subtle hints of honey, almond and fresh herbs begin to emerge, promising further development in bottle. On the palate, this Timorasso is dry, medium to full-bodied and beautifully structured, defined by its vibrant acidity and a firm, almost tactile mineral backbone. Flavors of lemon zest, pear and stone fruit are interwoven with savory notes of crushed rock, almond skin and a gentle, savory spice. The finish is long, clean and persistent, leaving a lingering impression of citrus, salt and delicate florality. While already expressive in 2023, this wine has the structure to evolve gracefully for 5–8 years, gaining more honeyed, nutty complexity with time.

Production
The grapes for Filari di Timorasso are grown in Piedmont’s Colli Tortonesi area, where calcareous clay and marl soils, cool nights and steady hillside breezes help preserve acidity and intensify aromatics. Vines rooted in these poor, mineral-rich slopes produce naturally low yields, concentrating flavor and structure in the grapes. Harvest is typically carried out by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches and to bring the fruit into the winery in optimal condition. In the cellar, the must is gently pressed and fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel to protect the delicate aromatics of Timorasso, often followed by maturation on fine lees to build texture, mid-palate weight and complexity without masking the grape’s innate freshness and minerality.

Food & Serving
Filari di Timorasso 2023 is an excellent partner for refined seafood dishes such as grilled sea bass, turbot, shellfish, scallops or octopus, and it also shines alongside risotto, especially with porcini mushrooms, saffron or seafood. Its structure and minerality make it an outstanding match for veal tonnato, roasted poultry, rabbit, and a range of medium-aged Italian cheeses, including Tome from Piedmont or a delicate pecorino. Serve at 10–12°C to highlight its aromatics and tension; a brief 20–30 minutes in a carafe can help the wine open up, especially in its youth, revealing more depth and complexity.

Producer
Boveri Luigi is a respected family-run estate in the hills of Tortona in Piedmont, long recognized as one of the key names in the renaissance of Timorasso. Working primarily with native varieties and hillside vineyards, the winery has played an important role in demonstrating just how serious and age-worthy this local white grape can be. A strong focus on careful vineyard work, low yields and thoughtful, minimally interventionist winemaking has earned Luigi Boveri a loyal following among Italian wine enthusiasts and sommeliers. Today, the estate is considered a reference point for Timorasso in the region, helping to cement the Colli Tortonesi area’s reputation for distinctive, terroir-driven white wines.
