Louis Roederer Collection 243 is a refined expression of the house’s modern style, presented here in an impressive 300 cl Jeroboam format that offers both presence and enhanced ageing potential. Built around a precise blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with reserve wines from the Réserve Perpétuelle, it captures Louis Roederer’s balance of freshness, depth and continuity while honouring more than two centuries of Champagne craftsmanship.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a beautiful golden hue with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is bright and layered, opening with citrus, white flowers and green apple, before unfolding into notes of toasted almonds, brioche and subtle mineral nuances.
The palate is lively and generous, combining crisp fruit, creamy texture and elegant structure. There is both energy and complexity here, with a long, silky finish that leaves a refined impression. Thanks to the Jeroboam format and extended cellar maturation, Collection 243 has excellent ageing potential and can develop further nuance over time.
Production
Collection 243 is based on the 2017 harvest, complemented by reserve wines from Louis Roederer’s Réserve Perpétuelle, a solera-like system established in 2012 to bring depth and consistency to the blend. The cuvée is composed of 42% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir and 22% Pinot Meunier, selected to reflect the house style and the diversity of Champagne terroir. After secondary fermentation, the wine ages for a minimum of four years in the cellars, allowing the mousse to refine and the flavours to integrate before disgorgement and further rest.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is a superb match for oysters, caviar, sashimi, scallops, lobster or delicate poultry dishes, but it is equally at home alongside aged hard cheeses and refined canapés. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary, though allowing it a few minutes in the glass will help the aromas open, especially in the large-format bottle.
Producer
Champagne Louis Roederer is one of the great independent houses of Champagne, founded in 1776 and long regarded for its commitment to vineyard ownership, precision winemaking and exceptional quality. Based in Reims, the house has played an important role in defining the prestige style of Champagne and is especially celebrated for wines that combine finesse, structure and ageing capacity. Collection 243 reflects this heritage while showing the house’s willingness to evolve with a more contemporary, terroir-driven approach.
