Lingua Franca’s Avni Chardonnay 2022 is a finely tuned expression of Oregon’s volcanic Willamette Valley, blending precision, freshness, and a distinctly mineral edge. Named after the stone-rich soils that shape the vineyard character, it reflects the vision of Thomas Savre and Master Sommelier Larry Stone in crafting a Chardonnay that captures the essence of the region with Burgundy-inspired elegance.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass with a bright, polished sheen, this Chardonnay opens with lifted aromas of lemon zest, green apple, fresh herbs, and subtle white flowers. On the palate, it is generous yet poised, showing pear, nectarine, and pomelo alongside a vivid mineral line that brings tension and energy. The texture is notably supple and refined, with a clean, saline-inspired finish that keeps the wine feeling fresh and precise. With its balance of fruit, acidity, and oak integration, it should develop gracefully over the next few years, gaining added depth and complexity.

Production
Avni is sourced from multiple parcels across the Willamette Valley, selected for their contribution to a wine that expresses the region’s character in full. The vineyards sit on volcanic soils marked by porous red earth and basalt stone, which lend the wine its signature mineral freshness. In the cellar, the wine is aged with great precision: 21% in new 600-liter barrels, 16% in large oak casks, and 63% in older French 225-liter barrels.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay is a natural match for roast chicken, seared scallops, halibut, lobster, creamy risotto, or mushroom dishes. Serve at around 14°C and, for the best expression of its aroma and texture, use large Burgundy-style glasses. Decanting is not necessary, but a short period in the glass will help the wine open beautifully.
