In the glass, L'IF 2021 shows a deep, vibrant ruby hue with a youthful rim, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose opens with dark berries and ripe plums, followed by layers of clay-tinged earth, black truffle, and sweet forest floor, giving it a distinctly Saint‑Émilion signature. L'IF is sourced from vineyards in Saint‑Émilion planted primarily to Merlot with a significant proportion of Cabernet Franc, rooted in classic clay-limestone and well-drained soils that naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor. Grapes are harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, with strict sorting in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy fruit is used. Fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled vats with gentle extraction to preserve finesse, not power, followed by aging in French oak barrels (a significant share new) to add polish and complexity without overwhelming the wine’s terroir-driven character.
