L’IF 2020 is a refined Saint-Émilion red that showcases the modern, more terroir-driven face of Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Bursting with sweet blackberry, cherry, licorice and spice, it delivers both immediate charm and impressive structure. In recent years, this small estate has truly come into its own, carving out a distinct identity on the limestone plateau just beside the famed Troplong Mondot, once owned by the same Thienpont family.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, L’IF 2020 displays a deep, vibrant ruby hue with youthful purple reflections around the rim, signaling both concentration and freshness. The nose is expressive and layered, offering ripe blackberries and dark cherries intertwined with notes of black licorice, baking spices and a subtle floral lift, all framed by a chalky, mineral edge. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, combining a generous core of sweet, pure fruit with a lively, youthful structure. Juicy blackberry and cherry flavors unfold over fine-grained, calcareous tannins, giving the wine both grip and elegance. Hints of licorice, spice and mineral tones carry through to a long, precise finish. While already appealing in its youth, the balance of fruit, acidity and tannin suggests very good aging potential over the next 10–15 years, during which the texture will soften and the aromatics gain complexity.

Production
L’IF is crafted from vineyards rooted in the limestone-rich soils of Saint-Émilion, a terroir that naturally lends tension, minerality and finesse to the wines. The estate’s parcels, many situated alongside Troplong Mondot, benefit from excellent exposure and well-drained soils that help achieve ripe, healthy fruit. Grapes are harvested by hand, allowing for strict selection in the vineyard and at the winery. Vinification is carried out with a focus on precision and purity of fruit—gentle extraction, temperature-controlled fermentation and careful élevage in quality oak barrels—to preserve the estate’s limestone signature and the vintage’s natural energy.

Food & Serving
L’IF 2020 is a versatile food wine that shines with refined, flavorful dishes. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, veal, or game birds, and works equally well with truffle risotto, mushroom-based dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and freshness. Young bottles will benefit from 1–2 hours in a decanter to soften the tannins and open up the bouquet, while older bottles should be handled more gently with a shorter decant, primarily to remove any sediment.
