Description
Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Viré-Clessé Magnum 2023 is a refined Burgundy Chardonnay in an impressive magnum format, offering both immediate charm and excellent cellaring potential. Crafted by one of the most respected names in Mâconnais, it combines ripe fruit, bright mineral tension, and the depth that has made Viré-Clessé one of the region’s most admired appellations.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a clear, luminous golden hue with youthful green reflections. The nose is expressive and precise, with aromas of citrus blossom, pear, white peach, fresh almond, and subtle wet-stone minerality.
On the palate, the wine is vivid and beautifully balanced, blending generous orchard fruit with lively acidity and a clean, saline finish. The magnum format supports graceful development, and the 2023 vintage should reward careful cellaring over several years, gaining extra complexity and texture with time.
Production
Viré-Clessé comes from limestone- and clay-rich vineyards in the northern Mâconnais, where the cool climate helps preserve freshness and aromatic clarity. The wine is made from Chardonnay and is typically crafted with careful vineyard selection and gentle vinification to respect the purity of the fruit, often using low-intervention cellar work and restrained oak influence to preserve the terroir-driven style.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine, ideal with shellfish, grilled sea bass, roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, or aged goat cheese. Serve chilled, around 10–12°C, and allow a brief aeration if opened young; decanting is usually not necessary, though a short rest in the glass can help the aromas unfold.
Producer
Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon is the Mâconnais project of Dominique Lafon, a leading figure in Burgundy known for his meticulous biodynamic approach and exceptional white wines. Established to highlight the potential of the region, the domaine has earned a strong reputation for producing characterful, terroir-driven Chardonnay that stands alongside some of Burgundy’s most admired wines.
