Production
The 2018 Léoville Poyferré is crafted from vineyards in the heart of Saint-Julien on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where deep gravel soils over clay provide excellent drainage and encourage Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen slowly and fully, yielding wines of power and elegance. The blend is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc, a classic Left Bank assemblage that reflects both the estate’s terroir and the exceptional ripeness of the vintage. Grapes are carefully harvested at optimal maturity, parcel by parcel, with strict selection to ensure only the finest fruit makes it into the grand vin. Vinification is conducted in temperature-controlled vats to preserve purity of fruit and aromatics, followed by élevage in French oak barrels, 80% of which are new. This generous use of new oak adds polish, spice, and structure, while extended barrel aging integrates the components into a seamless, layered wine.
